The ISO 45001 2018 Standard is used to describe the Occupational Health & Safety Management Standards requirements for a management system. It is the primary edition of ISO (International Standardization Organization), which is an autonomous and non-governmental organization, used to increase business-standard ability in the market. It is a part of a management system that has been issued to safeguard employees and customers from work-related injuries and illnesses.
Initially, OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) was formally adopted by the British Standard for the Health and Safety Management System in 1999. Then, it was updated as OHSAS 18001:2017 Certificate again in 2017. However, OHSAS 18001 centered on the control of OH&S (Occupational Health & Safety) risks and other internal problems, so the ISO 45001 standard was adopted, which focuses on the relationship between a company and its business environment. In March 2018, it was first released. And thus, ISO 45001 2018 replaced OHSAS.
And its adaptation duration is also defined for three years between 2018 and 2021, which means that if an organization uses the OHSAS 18001 standard, then, he should implement ISO 45001 2018 for its organization since it'll be used from now on.
This ISO 45001:2018 standard is defined to prevent adverse workplace conditions because thousands of workers lose their lives daily, only because of a lack of safety requirements in the company. This structure is mainly designed to reduce the evaluation of the risk of an organization.
